01Introduction
This policy describes what data the PC & Electronic Basics Discord bot (the "Bot") processes, why, and how it is stored. It applies to every Discord server the Bot is invited to and to every user of that server.
02Information We Collect
The Bot processes only the data needed for the features that are turned on:
- Server and channel IDs — to know where it is installed and which features are enabled where;
- User IDs — used by features such as the counting game (a channel remembers the ID of the last member who counted);
- Message content — read to run the features described in sections 3 to 5;
- Feature configuration — what server administrators set themselves (for example a channel's expected number and its webhook, and the per-server logging webhooks).
03The Counting Game
In a counting channel, the Bot re-posts the number through a channel webhook under the counting member's own display name and avatar, and deletes the original message. A counting channel stores the number expected next and the ID of the last member who counted, so the same member cannot count twice in a row. Nothing else about a member is kept.
04Message Logging (Edited and Deleted Messages)
Where a server administrator has turned logging on, the Bot forwards an entry to a webhook in a channel that server chose:
- an edited message — the author's display name and avatar, the channel, a link to the message, and the text before and after the edit;
- a deleted message — the same details, with the text the message had.
05Recent Messages After a Restart
So that logging keeps working when the Bot restarts, it reads the last two weeks of messages in the channels of servers where logging is enabled, once at each start. This refreshes the Bot's own in-memory view of recent messages: it is not stored, not used for anything else, and it happens only on servers that have logging enabled. A server without logging enabled has no messages read in this way.
06Information We Do NOT Collect
The Bot does not collect or store:
- passwords, tokens or private (DM) messages;
- profile data such as e-mail, phone or address;
- payment data;
- message history outside the features that are turned on.
07How We Use It
Data is used solely to operate the features described above. Processing for a given feature starts only when a server administrator explicitly turns it on (for example by setting up a counting channel or configuring a logging webhook). No feature that stores data runs before it is turned on, and a server administrator can have it turned off again at any time by contacting the maintainer.
08How Data May Be Shared
Data is not sold and is not shared with third parties, except where necessary to run the service (for example, Discord itself) or where required by law.
09Data Security
Data is stored in a protected database and only authorised persons have access. Still, no system is perfect and absolute security cannot be guaranteed.
10Your Rights
You may ask what is stored about you or your server, have it corrected, or have it deleted. The /data command shows you what is stored for you and files a deletion request, and it removes your ID from the counting game straight away. The /report command is for reporting a problem with the Bot. When the Bot is removed from a server, the configuration stored for that server is deleted. Requests also go to the contact in section 14.
11Third-Party Links
The Bot and these pages may contain links to third-party services (for example, Discord). Data processing on those services is governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.
12Children's Privacy
The Bot is intended for Discord users in line with Discord's own age requirement. We do not knowingly collect data from children below that age.
13Changes
This policy may be updated. The date above shows the current version. Significant changes will be highlighted on this page.
